Freezante Băbească rose 2021 – Caii de la Letea

I started the month of August with some new wines, so today I come here with some impressions about them.

Caii de la Letea Winery has just released two rosé wines, just right for this summer, one of which is sparkling, called FreeZante Băbească, which is part of a new range of wines, FreeZante.

Made only from Băbească Neagră grapes from the 2021 harvest, it is a rosé wine, slightly effervescent (pressure in the bottle is 2.5 bars). It is a fresh, light, summer wine, its effervescence making it very suitable to be enjoyed at any time of the day, both on its own and with something to eat.

I enjoyed it at the end of a hot day and it was very tasty. I found the salmon pink color to be extremely vibrant and the soft and long bubbles surprised me. The wine is made by the charmat method (fermentation in stainless steel tanks), its effervescence resulting exclusively from its own fermentation process, without added carbon dioxide.

In the smell, I felt the notes of strawberries and raspberries, but also a little citrus. On the palate the notes of very ripe strawberries and raspberries were present. The lemon flavor was also felt, as well as the high acidity. It is a very fresh and fruity wine, perfect to enjoy on summer days like this one.

I enjoyed the wine at about 8-10 degrees Celsius, the 12% alcohol was not too noticeable, but the residual sugar seemed a little higher than I was used to (it has 5.95 g/liter). It's a wine that I find suitable for both picnics and the pool, and maybe even a lazy weekend or holiday breakfast. If I had to enjoy it with something to eat I would choose a light summer salad, soft cheeses or seafood.

The aftertaste was medium plus, high acidity and hints of lemon giving this wine its unmistakable freshness. If you are looking for a fresh wine with very intense notes of strawberries and raspberries, try Freezante Băbească rose from the Caii de la Letea winery.
