Budureasca launches The Sign wine range

The "The Sign" range from Budureasca represents a collection of emblematic and unique wines in the Romanian market, each of them being a symbol of innovation and excellence in winemaking. These wines are created with mastery, reflecting the special terroir of the Budureasca vineyards and using unique winemaking techniques.

The "The Sign" range was launched at the end of this summer and, as  I wanted to know more about it, I spoke with Monica Florean, Marketing Director Budureasca.

Carmina: When you set out to create "The Sign" range how did you wanted it to be? What kind of wines will it include?
Monica:
From the beginning, we wanted The Sign range to be a strong imprint of Budureasca Winery. Thus the range includes signature wines, with strong differentiating factors that reflect the unique characteristics of the varieties and maximize the potential of our vineyards using ultra-modern winemaking techniques. The name The Sign has a strong resonance that conveys a message of uniqueness, perfectly shading each wine that makes up this collection.

Carmina: How did you choose the wines that are part of The Sign range today?
Monica:
We only chose wines with personality, unique to our winery and some of them even unique in Romania:
  • Tămâioasa Românească is produced from grapes harvested from a plot that is over 68 years old;  in the winemaking process we used one of the newest technologies globally, i.e. ultrasonic maceration - made with the Perseo equipment of which there are only a few copies all over the world.
  • Shiraz wine comes from grapes harvested from a plot located on the highest areas of our vineyard, in the terraced area and with very rich limestone soil, which brings out the typicality of the variety in every glass.
  • Fetească Neagră Wild wine is already appreciated for its unmistakable character so close to the typicality of Fetească Neagră, without barrel and fermented only with the yeasts found naturally on the grapes. It is difficult to vinify this way because there is an element of the unknown, of surprise, there is no predictability in how the wine will evolve and it needs to be watched much more closely. This wine has been a long time wish of oenologist Stephen Donnelly which this year came true and is already a real success for our winery.
  • Sauvignon & Sauvignon is the most awarded wine in our portfolio during 2023. It was included in this collection precisely for its uniqueness. It is a white wine created from white Sauvignon Banc grapes and black Cabernet Sauvignon grapes vinified in white and brings to the fore the parent-child relationship, starting from the 2 component varieties of the blend.
  • Pincomet is a special rosé, released just before summer and suitable for this period but not only, a wine very lightly impregnated with carbon dioxide to preserve its freshness and to enhance its aromas.

Carmina: The wines have a dedicated logo as well as unique labels. How did you arrive at this image?
Monica: The logo was born through a rather laborious creative process and the result seems to be very nice. The range image is rich in symbolism and can be easily associated with the shape of a glass/goblet from which we like to enjoy our favorite wine, the shape of an imprint that even indicates the uniqueness, the signature of these wines for Budureasca or of some vineyards, the place in which the wines of these wines originate. As it emerged from the creative process, the range logo symbolizes the womb of the earth that gave birth to these so fruitful vines; we also find them stylized at the bottom of some of the range's labels.

For 3 of the wines in the range we have developed individualized labels that can better express their specificity. For Fetească Neagră Wild the image includes elements of wild nature, at Pincomet elements from the solar system are included starting from the writings that attest that in the time of the Dacians they dealt with sky mysteries and at Sauvignon & Savignon we bring together the 2 distinct elements of the sun and the moon associated with day and night, respectively the white variety and the black variety within the blend.

Carmina: Do you intend to release wines from the same varieties year after year in this range? Or will each vintage year include wines from different varieties?

Monica: For the moment we want to ensure a continuity of the existing wines, this being also a requirement that comes from the direction of the market.

Wines from The Sign range can be found on the winery's website, in the showroom situated in Bucharest (Bd.Lacul Tei no.1-3), as well as in specialized wine shops, and in the future will be found on restaurant menus.
