Winery Tour: Picnic in the Vineyard at Velvet Winery

Winery Tour: Picnic in the Vineyard at Velvet Winery

Wine tourism. Oenotourism. Winery tourism. All these words represent one and the same thing, which is the idea of traveling to wineries with the purpose of seeing how a winery works, how the vineyard is cared for, how the wine is made, and of course, to taste wines from that winery.

Today, the types of trips we can take are very diverse: we start from holidays in the mountains or at the sea, we end up with city breaks or cruises, in order to then turn our thoughts to our passions or interests, at which point we access the so-called "niche tourism".

Winery visits are part of niche tourism and are not new in Romania. They have developed quite a lot in recent years, but if we take the example of other countries in this regard, in Romania we still have a lot to learn in terms of this type of tourism. Doing tourism is completely different from making wine. They are two totally different areas, but if there is interest in winery tours, wouldn't it be a good idea to develop this lesser known area? Practically wine lovers want to know more about wines and about the activity of a winery by visiting the wineries at their home. Personally, I see a huge opportunity here.

In Romania, we have more and more wineries that have opened their doors to tourism. Some wineries have even built their own accommodation units or opened restaurants to add additional services to winery visits and thus started to create real experiences. Other wineries have developed their part of guided tours, wine tasting accompanied by aperitifs or food menu, and for some of these services they call on collaborators in the area.

When you want to involve in tourism industry it doesn't mean you have to do it all by yourself. Tourism can be a completely new field for a winery and, not knowing where to start, a good idea is to collaborate with those companies in the area with whom they know they can create unique experiences.

One of the wineries in Romania that is already creating unique experiences is Velvet Winery. Located in the heart of Dealu Mare wine region,Tohani vineyard, Velvet Winery is a boutique winery that has well-known wine ranges on the market such as La Țigănci, Wine Deco and Magiq. The winery has been seriously developing the part of visits and events at the winery for several years.

At the moment Velvet Winery is one of the wineries that offers several options both for private events (where services can be customized) and for wine tasting - they have prepared 5 types of tasting:
  • tasting of 4 wines
  • tasting of 5 Summer Vibe wines
  • tasting of 6 Private Selection wines
  • tasting of 8 wines Complete Experience
  • Wine Maker Experience LG: the most complex experience offered by Liviu Grigorića himself, the one who signs the wines produced at Velvet Winery
At the same time, Velvet Winery has also developed the concept of "Picnic in the vineyard" for when you don't want to participate in a tasting presented by someone, but you want to come accompanied by friends and have, for a few hours, your own dedicated space. Thus, during a picnic in the vineyard, the standard package offered by Velvet Winery is a space furnished with an umbrella and 4 places where you can spend 4 hours in the company of your loved ones. You also have included 2 bottles of wine of your choice (from the La Țigănci, Wine Deco Chardonnay, Cabaret ranges), 4 small bottles of water and 1 cold plate. The winery has 5 such spaces, so if you have more friends, you can come with them because there is plenty of room!

Winesday App welcomes Velvet Winery's initiative to create not only wine tastings, but also unique experiences of visiting and relaxing in their vineyard in Dealu Mare! Additional details on Velvet Winery travel experiences can be found here.
