Nectar of Transylvania Wine - Grand Gold Medal & "Best of Show Romania noble sweet" at Mundus Vini 2025
Located in the Lechinta wine region, Liliac, the boutique winery in Batoș, Mureș County, achieved remarkable success at the Grand International Wine Award MUNDUS VINI.
Nectar of Transylvania wine received the highest distinction of the competition, the “GRAND GOLD” medal and the title “Best of Show Romania noble sweet”, completing its record with the tenth gold medal and ranking among the most awarded dessert wines in Romania.
Liliac Nectar of Transylvania brings together in a 375ml bottle years of history and months of work, until it reaches the perfection that characterizes it. It is a sweet wine, obtained with great effort and care, according to the Schilfwein method, one of the most complex techniques for producing this dessert wine. Liliac is the first winery in Romania to use this winemaking method.
The story of wine begins in the drying solariums, where the Muscat Ottonel and Tămâioasă Românească grapes, hand-picked and selected berry by berry at the end of September, are left for 4-5 months lying on reed mats, well ventilated by the westerly wind. As a result of this slow drying, approx. 20% of the initial quantity of must is obtained, extremely rich in sugar and aromas, which, after a delicate pressing, is vinified and fermented in stainless steel tanks and matured in Transylvanian oak barrels for 7 months.
The resulting wine is complex, balanced and intensely aromatic, with aromas of honey, melon, mango and quince. Its velvety texture and natural sweetness go perfectly with refined desserts such as crêpes suzettes, tarts or lemon cheesecake, but also with gourmet dishes such as foie gras.
"We are delighted to receive this distinction, which not only validates our commitment to quality, but also the passion and dedication of our team, and the fact that this wine was created by two talented and young winemakers, Paula Bota and Cristina Carazan, only crowns this beautiful time of year, dedicated especially to women. Nectar of Transylvania is one of the first wines we created at our winery and over time we have perfected the production methods. This Grand Gold Medal distinction motivates us to continue striving for excellence", declares Miron Radic, General Manager Liliac
