For the Holidays try a Fetească Neagră wine
Fetească Neagră is the local grape variety that began to represent Romania beyond the country's borders. Originally from Moldova (both the Moldova region on the territory of Romania and the Republic of Moldova), this type of grape is cultivated in over 3000 hectares on the territory of our country.
The month of December is already here and since in the immediate period we all have a lot of reasons to celebrate, I suggest that this year you put a Fetească Neagră on the Christmas table, the New Year's table or any meeting with family and friends.
To help you with this, I leave below some ideas of wines made from Fetească Neagră grape that you can find either directly at wineries or in specialized shops. I have chosen some wines from Fetească Neagră from several regions of the country precisely because they are very different from one region to another. If you are curious, know that a comparative tasting also works very well, to find out which wine you like most.
Muntenia:
Signature Fetească Neagră 2016, signed by Aurelia Vișinescu, is Aurelia's flagship wine.
Aurelia Vișinescu is one of the oenologists in love with this grape variety that he has been vinifying for 18 years and that he knows best. She has been called "Lady Fetească Neagră" for many years due to the fact that she was the first oenologist in Romania who managed to vinify Fetească Neagră dry, and today, Aurelia Vișinescu signs the wines from Domeniile Săhăteni (a winery located in the Dealu Mare region). Of the 82 hectares of vines that the winery owns, Feteasca Neagră occupies 19.4 hectares, being the most extensive plantation.
Dobrogea:
Primordial Fetească Neagră, Domeniul Bogdan: one of the tastiest Fetească Neagră comes from Dobrogea. It is a complex wine, very concentrated in fruit, but also high in alcohol and goes very well with food.
Banat:
Melgis Fetească Neagră: it is part of the "Daring" wines of Petro Vaselo Winery, which has its vineyards in the Recaș region, near Timișoara. It is a wine that is distinguished by the mineral notes that come from the clay and calcarous soil of the area.
Oltenia:
Perfect Simplu Fetească Neagră 2020 from Catleya Wines: the Perfect Simplu range includes only monovarietal wines designed to bring out the varietal typicality of each wine included in it. Fetească Neagră from this range has aromas of smoked plums, violets, bitter cherries, newly cut herbs and liquorice. The wine was aged for 10 months, of which 85% in stainless steel tanks and 15% in new Romanian oak barrels.
Transilvania:
Premium Fetească Neagră from Villa Vinea: a typical Fetească Neagră from Transylvania. Although it is also aged in oak barrels for 10 months, the wine has a less fruity expression than the wines from the other regions of the country.
The above wines accompanied a special tasting of “sarmale” (stuffed cabbage) at the beginning of this year, so the recommendation is to try them with sarmale, to the extent that you will have them on the festive table, but also with other dishes.
