Results of the National Bag-in-Box Wine Competition 2025 (9th edition)
On February 12th, 2025, the ninth edition of the National Bag-in-Box Wine Competition took place in Bucharest, a competition organized by Azoc Star and Smurfit Webstrock.
The jury was made up of 37 jurors (scientists, oenologists, WSET, authorized tasters, sommeliers, journalists and wine merchants) who were assigned to 5 committees, each committee being chaired by well-known names in the Romanian wine world: Prof.univ.dr. Arina Antoce, Cătălin Păduraru, Liviu Grigorica, Marian Timofti, Sergiu Nedelea.
The 5 committees evaluated the 220 wines entered in the competition (96 white, 60 rosé and 64 red), of which 78 received the title "Best Bag-in-Box Wine 2025", and 9 wines were awarded Gold medals, having the highest score. These are:

- Crama Girboiu, Varancha Sauvignon Blanc
- Crama Hermeziu, Yash Fetească Regală
- Vibrate, Crama Starmina Merlot rose
- Domeniile Bohotin, Zurzur Busuioacă de Bohotin
- Domeniile Ostrov, Muscat Ottonel
- Crama Bratu, Merlot rose
- Casa de Vinuri Beciu, Strop de Grai Red Cuvee
- Cramele Recaș, Schwaben Wein Merlot
- Stațiunea de Cercetare Pietroasa - Cloșca cu Puii de Aur Cabernet Sauvignon
"The President's Wine" was another stage of the competition in which the 5 chairmen of the committees, together with Cătălin Costiniuc, the President of the Competition, analyzed and decided on 3 wines (one white, one rosé and one red) that will bear the name "The President's Wine 2025". These are:
- Casa de Vinuri Cotnari, Tămâioasă românească
- Viticola Sarica Niculițel, Premium Sarica vin rosé 100
- Cramele Recaș, Schwaben Wein Merlot
The competition also included the "Most Popular Bag-in-Box Wine" section. This section was judged by a 32-member jury that tasted all 78 wines awarded the title "Best Bag-in-Box Wine 2025" and designated 3 wines that received the title "Most Popular Bag-in-Box Wine 2025".

I am glad that I was part of one of the Judging Committees (Committee 3) for the second year in a row because I had the opportunity to try the wines and evaluate their quality. Since 2021 I have been part of the jury of several wine competitions held in Romania and I am glad that such competitions also exist for bag-in-box wines, considered more simple, but which can offer very pleasant experiences to consumers.
Moreover, the President of the National Bag-in-Box Wine Competition, Cătălin Costiniuc, will select at least 15 wines and promote them worldwide by registering them at the "Concours International Wine In Box", Toulouse, France which will take place on March 27, 2025, as well as at "VINARIUM International Wine Contest" which will take place between May 22 - 25, 2025.
For Romanian wineries, participating in international competitions of this type is a way to increase their visibility worldwide.
