Results of VINARIUM International Wine Contest 2024
The XXI edition of VINARIUM International Wine Contest has just ended. It took place in Ploiesti between Mai 23rd and 26th 2024 and was organized by ASER Consulting & Management and the VINARIUM Association (Wine Institute), in partnership with ADAR (Association of Authorized Tasters from Romania) under the patronage of OIV (International Organization of Vine and Wine) and VINOFED (the World Federation of Major International Wine and Spirits competitions).
The event was supported by Ploiești City Hall and held under the auspices of Ploiești - the Youth Capital of Romania in 2024, Prahova County Youth Foundation and Eurospirit association.
This year, 1502 samples were entered by 239 operators (producers, importers, representatives of producers) from 26 countries. 39.3% of the total entries were from outside Romania - the organizing country.
Still wines (1381 samples), effervescent wines (110 samples) and distilled wines based on grapes and wine (11 samples) were entered into the competition.
The total number of judges was 46, coming from 18 countries: Bulgaria, Canada, Cyprus, Switzerland, France, Finland, Georgia, Germany, Italy, Japan, Great Britain, Norway, Holland, Republic of Moldova, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Turkey.
The judging took place with 8 commissions of 5 judges/commission.
After the 4 days of judging, the following medals were awarded:
25 Grand Gold Medals (score 93-100) – 5.5% of total medals
357 Gold Medals (score 89-92.9) – 78.5% of total medals
73 Silver Medals (85-88.9) – 16% of the total medals
Although the minimum score for the Silver Medal, according to the OIV Regulation, is 85 points, due to the restriction according to which only 30% of the samples entered in the competition can obtain a distinction, the last average for the Silver Medal was 88.33.
The 25 Great Gold Medals were obtained by wineries from Bulgaria, Cyprus, Italy, North Macedonia, Portugal, Republic of Moldova, Romania.
Out of the total of 25 Grand Gold medals, Romania obtained 5 medals, namely for wines:
