The curious world of wine - Book of the month June 2023

The volume "The Curious world of wine. Wine and history. Spirit and essence" was published in Romanian language  by Baroque Books & Arts publishing house in "In Vino Veritas" collection. The book is written by Richard Vine and is one of the easiest to read and most informative books.

Richard Vine worked for many years of his career in the world of wine, a good part of that time at a company that produced over 6 million bottles annually and for 21 years he was a wine consultant for American Airlines flights. I realized that I had never thought that an airline would need a wine consultant, a product so little in demand today on flights, yet so important and probably required in various variations within Business Class (and yet, in the past it seems you had plenty of wines to choose from on board of the planes).

The book "Curious world of wine" presents you in short stories all kinds of curiosities about wine, legends and stories about what people thought about wine in other times, about entrepreneurs in wine, about historical characters passionate about wine and much more.

Chapters:
  • Over a glass of wine with people from other times
  • French branch
  • Legends and traditional stories
  • Parents and founders
  • The call of wine from the new world
  • Great entrepreneurs
  • Fascinating legacies
  • The California Chronicles
  • Enchanting oenological characters
  • Wine and love

Reasons to read the book - you will learn about:
  • about the wine from the Stone Age
  • where does the word "toast" come from
  • how some wineries in America managed to survive during the ban (and some, like Gallo, to increase their grape production) by selling grapes so that the population could make wine at home (up to 800 l / year and only for private consumption)
  • why it's called "honeymoon" (and especially how it relates to wine)
  • how Dom Perignon accidentally discovered champagne
  • about Thomas Jefferson's passion for wine (who was the most influential supporter of wine during the early days of American independence), Benjamin Franklin and George Washington
  • what the "Paris Judgment" of 1976 meant when French wines with US wines were put face to face for the first time in a blind tasting
Where you can find the book: on the website of the Baroque Books & Arts publishing house at the "In Vino Veritas" collection and in bookstores throughout the country.
